KU Soccer sets 2019 Spring Schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Five matches at Rock Chalk Park will highlight Kansas soccer’s spring exhibition schedule, which head coach Mark Francis released Friday. The spring slate will kick off on Saturday, March 23 against Grand Valley State in Lawrence. Last spring, the Jayhawks went unbeaten in the spring, going 9-0-1, which included a 5-0-0 mark on their European Tour.

Kansas, which opened its spring practice last month, will open exhibition season against the Lakers of Grand Valley State on Saturday, March 23 at Rock Chalk Park. The Lakers, members of NCAA DII, are coming off a 25-1-1 record in their 2018 campaign, with the lone loss coming in the NCAA Tournament’s National Championship game in December. First touch for KU’s spring opener is set for 7 p.m. (CT).

A week later the Jayhawks will welcome Missouri Valley foe Missouri State (8-9-2 in 2018) on March 30. The Jayhawks and Bears met in spring play a year ago, with KU edging MSU, 2-1, in Lawrence. The match with the Bears will begin at 5 p.m., at Rock Chalk Park. On Wednesday, April 10, Kansas will welcome the Sporting Blue Valley U14 Boys Club team, another squad which KU topped last spring, 2-1 at Rock Chalk Park. That game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., also in Lawrence.

Kansas will also host the UMKC Kangaroos on Wednesday, April 24. The Roos are coming off a stellar 2018 campaign in which they finished with a 16-5-0 and claimed the regular-season WAC championship. Kansas and UMKC will hit the pitch for an 8 p.m., kickoff at Rock Chalk Park.

One of the Jayhawks’ spring matches is still to be determined. The date and time of that game will be announced at a later date.

Kansas finished the 2018 season at 12-6-3 and 5-4-0 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round before falling to the eventual national runner-up, North Carolina.
