KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior defender
Caroline Castans and senior forward
Lexi Watts were selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Fourth Team, the publication announced Friday. The All-America honors for Castans and Watts are the first of their careers.Â
Castans and Watts are the seventh and eighth All-American honorees in program history and the first since Katie McClure in 2019. The only other year that Kansas has had multiple All-Americans in the same season was in 2004, with Holly Gault, Meghan Miller and Caroline Smith earning the prestigious accolade.
"I'm extremely proud and couldn't be happier for Caroline and Lexi for achieving All-American honors," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "Their competitiveness, consistency and commitment to our standards have been at the heart of our success this season, and their leadership helped carry us through the postseason. They've set the tone for who we are as a program, and their impact will be felt here for a long time."
Castans set a new single season program record with 15 assists, which led the Big 12 and is tied for third in the country. The Flower Mound, Texas, native contributed two goals on the season, with one of them being the game-winning goal on the road at Oklahoma State, where Kansas played with only 10 players for the majority of the match. She started all 25 matches this season and contributed to seven shutouts with her defensive versatility. Castans was third amongst Kansas field players with 2,103 minutes played. Castans received All-Big 12 First Team honors and was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team this week. She was also named to the Big 12 Soccer All-Tournament Team.
Watts, a Lenexa, Kansas, native, set new career highs in goals and points this season. She led the team in both categories with 11 goals and 27 points. Watts finished the year sixth in the Big 12 in goals scored and eighth in the conference in points. She ended her career with 28 goals, 14 assists, 70 points and scored nine game-winning goals. Watts was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the second straight season and was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team this week.
Castans and Watts join a talented group of Kansas All-Americans, including Caroline Smith (2003, Third Team; 2004, Third Team), Holly Gault (2004, First Team), Meghan Miller (2004, Second Team), Liana Salazar (2014, Third Team), and Katie McClure (2019, Third Team).
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
