LAWRENCE, Kan. – On Senior Day and the final home game of the season for Kansas, a seventh-inning rally against No. 11/12 Texas fell short at Arrocha Ballpark. Texas earned the 4-2 victory but was challenged late.
Unlike the first two games of the series against the Longhorns, the weather was cold, which provided a new element for Texas this weekend.
The Longhorns started Miranda Elish, the game one winner, against Kansas senior Brynn Minor. Minor pitched a complete game, and showed her grit and determination after taking a ball off her throwing hand in the sixth inning.
Texas again was first on the scoreboard, tallying all four of its runs in the third inning. Minor and the KU defense held the Longhorns scoreless in the final four innings despite the swirling winds above Arrocha Ballpark .
Kansas tested Texas in the seventh.
Madison Sykes led off the inning with a double to center field and was brought home on a Tarin Travieso single to center.
After a single by Jen Marwitz, Kansas was tallied two outs in the next at bats after hitting into a fielder’s choice and a strikeout.
Sydnee Ramsey approached the plate and chopped a single to center field, which plated the second Kansas run and put runners on the corners.
Kansas’ final out came on a ground out back to Elish, which ended the comeback attempt by the Jayhawks.
