BILOXI, Miss. – Kansas Men's Golf will travel to Biloxi, Mississippi to take on the Fallen Oak Invitational for a second straight year, this year's rendition running from October 19-21 at Fallen Oak Golf Club.
"This is a great event against some really good teams," said Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel. "Fallen Oak is a hard golf course and it will test every part of our game. We got a little rest over fall break and should be ready to go."
Bermel will travel with the same lineup that has played throughout the fall season for the Jayhawks, which includes graduate student Gunnar Broin, juniors Will King and Luke Honner, and sophomores Noah Holtzman and Max Jelinek.
Broin and King continue to be the backbone of the team in the fall season, as the pair led the team with matching 3-2 records at Big 12 Match Play, propelling the team to a fourth-place finish in Houston. Broin (70.67) and King (70.88) lead the team in 18-hole scoring average as well and will look to replicate the same success at Fallen Oak Golf Club.
Jelinek has been a key piece of the Kansas lineup as well, finding low scores at clutch times in the early going of the 2024-25 season. Jelinek has played consistent golf throughout the fall, posting a 220, 221, and 223 in the three stroke play tournaments so far. Jelinek is also one of four Jayhawks to post a score under par in the fall campaign and will look to keep his momentum rolling into this weekend.Â
Honner since transferring from South Dakota State has continued to improve in his time as a Jayhawk, posting a lower score than the previous in each tournament this fall. Honner's fall has been highlighted by grabbing a clutch win in his match against Kansas State, to give the Jayhawks the victory over their in-state rival at Big 12 Match Play.
Holtzman in his first few starts as a Jayhawk has been a key piece of the lineup, as in the three stroke play tournaments, the Jayhawks have kept Holtzman's score 77.8 percent of the time. The Wichita native's fall season has been highlighted by a final round 71 to boost the Jayhawks into the top three at the Bearcat Invitational.Â
The Jayhawks return to the Fallen Oak Invitational for a second straight year, as the team placed fifth at the event a year ago. Broin and King both finished inside the top 20 in last year's event, and they will be looking for more in the 2024 edition of the Fallen Oak Invitational.Â
Kansas will tee off at 9:50 AM as the Jayhawks are grouped with UTSA and Purdue.
