HOUSTON – Kansas swimming and diving wrapped up its dual meet against Houston on Saturday, falling to the Cougars 84.5-215.5.
"Today we definitely learned where we are right now," said Kansas head coach
Clark Campbell. "Competing against a very strong Houston team gives us a good idea of how we need to progress over the next several weeks as we prepare for Big 12s."
The Jayhawks were led by sophomore standout diver
Shiyun Lai, who swept both diving events against Houston.
Senior captain
Eleni Kotzamanis tied for second place in the 200 free after racing a time of 1:54.41. The 100 back followed with a third-place finish from
Lezli Sisung with a time of 56.78.
Ryan Johnston was next on the podium for Kansas in the 100 breast, finishing in third place at 1:04.39.
Caroline Blake then took second in the 50 free (23.95), while
Mia Waldron finished closely behind and in third place at 24.19.
Blake was back in the scoring column, finishing third in the 100 free with a time of 52.89.
Aidan Howze placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.95,
Hailey Farrell finished third in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.67, and
Lydia Lafferty added a second-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 55.67.
Howze and Farrell were back on the podium, this time in the 200 IM. Howze finished in second place at 2:07.60 and Farrell in third at 2:09.06.
The relay team of Blake, Kotzamanis,
Izzy Satterlee and
Izzy Porter wrapped up the event with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:31.91.
ON THE BOARDS
Lai completed a sweep of the 1M and 3M diving events against Houston. Lai totaled a score of 296.93 in the 1M, followed by a score of 331. 65 in the 3M to lead Kansas on the boards. Junior
Lize van Leeuwen finished fourth in the 1M event with a score of 259.20.
