KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas soccer had three players selected to the All-Midwest Region teams, United Soccer Coaches announced on Tuesday. Junior
Caroline Castans and senior
Lexi Watts received second team honors, while redshirt sophomore
Sophie Dawe received fourth team honors.
It is the second straight season that Castans, Watts, and Dawe garnered All-Midwest Region accolades. Castans was selected to the first team a season ago and Watts and Dawe received second team honors.
"I'm incredibly proud of Caroline, Sophie and Lexi," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "Earning All-Midwest Region honors is a reflection of the consistency, competitiveness, and leadership these three bring to our program every single day. Their impact goes far beyond statistics—they elevate our standards, their teammates, and the overall environment. This recognition is well-deserved, and I couldn't be happier for Caroline, Sophie, and Lexi."
Castans, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, set a new single season program record with 15 assists, which led the Big 12 and is tied for third in the country. She started all 25 matches this season and contributed to seven shutouts. Castans was third amongst Kansas field players with 2,103 minutes played. She also contributed two goals on the season, with one of them being the game-winning goal against Oklahoma State, a match where Kansas played with only 10 players for the majority of the match. Castans also received All-Big 12 First Team honors and was named to the Big 12 Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team.
Watts set new career highs in goals and points this season, as she led the team in both categories with 11 goals and 27 points. The Lenexa, Kansas, native led Kansas in both categories in back-to-back seasons and finished the year sixth in the Big 12 in goals scored and eighth in the conference in points. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the second straight season.
Dawe finished her sophomore campaign by setting new career highs in minutes and saves with 2,200 minutes played and 65 saves. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Dawe started all 25 matches and recorded six shutouts and had 16 wins. She played all 90 minutes in all but three matches this season and finished second in the country in minutes played by a goalie. She tallied a season-high five saves in two different matches.
Kansas finished the season with an overall record of 16-6-3. The Jayhawks advanced to the Big 12 Championship match for the second straight season and were selected to their 11th NCAA Tournament in program history. Kansas advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third time in program history.
