
Kansas Claims 8th at 2025 Big 12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Kansas swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in eighth place on Saturday in Federal Way, Washington.Â
Five Jayhawks advanced to Saturday night's finals. Sophomore Shiyun Lai led the way in the morning prelims, qualifying for the championship final in women's platform diving. Bradie Ward earned a spot in the consolation final of the 200 back, while Ryan Johnston and Molly Robinson reached the C-final in the 200 breast. Lize van Leeuwen also secured a place in the C-final for women's platform diving.Â
The fifth and final session of the conference championships kicked off at 8 p.m. CT Saturday evening inside Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.Â
In the championship final of the women's platform dive, Lai totaled 235.20 points, finishing in fifth place. Lai qualified for the championship event for all three of her diving events, claiming gold in the 1M and silver in the 3M to go along with her fifth-place finish on the platform.Â
Ward placed 13th overall in the 200 back, clocking a lifetime-best 1:57.07—her second lifetime best of the day in the event. Â
In the 200 breast, Johnston improved on her prelims time, finishing 19th with a new lifetime best of 2:13.95 in the consolation final. Robinson followed with a time of 2:16.93, securing 23rd place.Â
