
Red Raiders Sweep Doubleheader from Jayhawks

Texas Tech, ranked No. 13 in the country, improved to 27-9 on the season and 8-1 in Big 12 play. Kansas dropped to 15-15 and 3-6 in the league. Red Raiders All-American pitcher NiJaree Canady earned the win in the finale and struck out 14.
GAME ONE: Texas Tech 14, Kansas 3
Texas Tech got out to a quick and early lead to start the opener. Following two home runs from the Red Raiders, the Jayhawks sat in a 3-0 deficit going into their first appearance at the plate. Junior Aynslee Linduff responded with a single to the shortstop, giving the Jayhawks their first hit of the contest. Kansas wasn't able to grab another hit in the bottom of the first and ended the inning down 3-0.
Texas Tech's momentum carried over into the second inning as the Red Raiders scored two runs. Kansas punched back by getting two runners on base with one runner in scoring position, but failed to convert and headed into the third inning down 5-0.
The Kansas defense tightened up in the third inning, only allowing one run on two hits, and then played its best inning of the day in the fourth when freshman Kennedy Diggs retired the three batters she faced in the inning.
Carrying the momentum from the fourth inning, the Jayhawks rattled off back-to-back home runs from September Flanagan and Campbell Bagshaw to give Kansas its first runs of the game. Kansas grabbed another hit from sophomore Kadence Stafford late in the fourth, but didn't make anything out of it. The Jayhawks finished the fourth inning cutting into the Red Raider lead, after putting two runs on the board to make the score 6-2.
Texas Tech rallied in the fifth inning, grabbing three more runs to extend their lead to 9-2, before Diggs recorded her second strikeout of the game. Kansas had a runner in scoring position after back-to-back walks, but couldn't respond and entered the sixth inning down 9-2.
The Jayhawks kept Texas Tech scoreless for the second inning of the day in the sixth, headlined by Diggs grabbing her third strikeout of the game to end the inning. Freshman Bailey Amezcua got her first hit of the day in the sixth inning, with a single to right field.
In the final inning of the first game, Texas Tech continued with its explosive offensive plays. Even with an RBI double from Flanagan, the Jayhawks could not recover. Texas Tech took the first game of the day 14-3.

GAME TWO: Texas Tech 4, Kansas 1
Senior Katie Brooks started in the circle for the Jayhawks, in the second game of the doubleheader and went all seven innings. Brooks got out to a fast start grabbing a pair of strikeouts in the opening inning.
In the second inning, the Kansas defense continued to impress allowing zero hits and keeping the Red Raiders scoreless for back-to-back innings.
Kansas was able to get its first hit of the contest in the bottom of the third inning, when junior Presley Limbaugh singled to the shortstop. Following a wild pitch and stolen base, the Jayhawks had a runner in scoring position late in the third inning, but Kansas couldn't convert.
Texas Tech scored the first runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Brooks recovered and recorded her third strike out of the game to get out of the inning. The Jayhawks couldn't get anything rolling in the fourth inning, and left the inning down 3-0.
Kansas secured its first run of the game following a solo home run to left field from senior Sara Roszak. It was Roszak's first homer of the season and helped trim the Red Raider lead, making the score 3-1 in favor of Texas Tech.
The Jayhawks used this momentum to keep Texas Tech scoreless in the sixth inning, while Linduff singled down the third base line for her first hit of the game. After senior Oliva Bruno walked, the Jayhawks had a runner in scoring position and only one out. However, the Jayhawks were unable to secure a run and entered the final inning of play down 3-1.
In the seventh inning, Texas Tech ended up launching a homer to center field and Kansas wasn't able to respond. Kansas fell to Texas Tech in the second game of the doubleheader 4-1.

The Jayhawks will return to action on Wednesday at home against Kansas City. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m., at Arrocha Ballpark.
