PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Kansas women's golf team secured a third-place finish at the ASU Ping Invitational, posting the lowest team score of the final round with a 276 (-12). The Jayhawks wrapped up the tournament at -11, highlighted by sophomore
Lyla Louderbaugh's first career top-five finish.
"I'm really proud of the golfers and how they stepped up and played with great confidence," Kansas head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "That's one thing that we talked about the entire week is playing with confidence and knowing how to stay in the present to access things in our control."
Host school Arizona State won the event with a score of -36, followed by Northwestern (-23), Kansas (-11), UCLA (-3), Tusla (+7) and Pepperdine (+7) to round out the top five.
Louderbaugh delivered her best performance in the final round on Sunday, posting a bogey-free round with six birdies for a career-low 66 (-6). She finished the tournament with scores of 71-72-66 (-7), tying for fourth place and securing her first career top-five finish.
"I'm really excited for Lyla to go for a bogey-free 66 for her career low round," Kuhle added. "She was just in the zone all day and really focused on ball striking and distance control with her putting."
Senior
Lauren Clark recorded six birdies in her final round, shooting a 68 (-4). She finished the tournament with scores of 73-74-68 (-1), tying for 13th place individually. This marks her seventh top-20 finish of the season and the 16th of her career.
Freshman
Ebba Nordstedt capped off the tournament with scores of 73-71-71 (-1), tying for 13th place with Clark. Her finish marks her fifth top-20 placement in as many events this season.
Senior
Lily Hirst posted rounds of 73-73-71 (+1) to finish tied for 21st place after three birdies in the final round.
Junior
Amy DeKock recorded seven birdies in her final round, finishing with scores of 70-77-71 (+2) to tie for 27th place individually.
Competing as individuals,
Johanna Ebner and
Anna Wallin both tied for 55th place. Ebner finished with scores of 73-79-74 (+10), while Wallin posted rounds of 74-76-76 (+10).
UP NEXT
The Jayhawks have wrapped up their regular season and will head to Hockley, Texas, on April 15-17 for the Big 12 Championship. The Jayhawks were picked by the GOLF Channel to win the conference title in the preseason.
