PEORIA, Ariz. – The Kansas women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, and finished with scores of 280-282-278 (-24) on Monday.
Junior
Lyla Louderbaugh led the way for the Jayhawks with a second-place finish, her best finish of the season. Louderbaugh put together two bogey-free rounds and finished the tournament with scores of 67-70-66 (-13). Louderbaugh now has three top five finishes on the season, to go along with six top 20 finishes. Louderbaugh's score of 203 (-13) is a new career low 54-hole score for the junior golfer.Â
"Lyla was solid once again and birdied her last hole for a chance to win," Kansas head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "She shot a 66 (-6) and was incredible with her ball striking and putting this week. We are so proud of her to almost win and finish second with solid rounds of 67 (-5) and 66 (-6) this week."
Missouri won the tournament with a score of 827 (-37), followed by Arizona (-35), Kansas State (-27), Nebraska (-26), and Kansas (-24).
Freshman
Kinslea Jones carded 14 birdies over three rounds, and finished the tournament with scores of 71-69-72 (-4). Jones tied for 21st place individually, marking her fourth top 25 finish of the season.
Seniors
Amy DeKock and
Anna Wallin both tied for 31st place. DeKock scored rounds of 71-71-72 (-2), and now leads the team with seven rounds under par. Wallin finished with scores of 71-72-71 (-2), and carded 12 birdies over the three rounds.
Sophomore
Ebba Nordstedt had her best round of the tournament on Monday with a 69 (-3), recording her third round in the 60's this season, and sixth time in her career. Nordstedt finished the tournament with scores of 73-73-69 (-1) and tied for 40th place.
Freshman
Marieke Ebens competed as an individual at the Westbrook Invitational. Ebens finished with scores of 72-77-76 (+9) and tied for 67th place.
"I'm really proud of our finish today with shooting -10 as a team," Kuhle said. "I'm very pleased with our finish and competitiveness this week. We know we've got to continue to work on consistency with ball striking, wedges and making more putts before our next event in two weeks."
