Kansas Drops Three-Game Series to No. 13 Arizona

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arizona Wildcats put on a dominant offensive performance en route to an 11-1 win over the Kansas Jayhawks Sunday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark. The 13th-ranked Wildcats improved to 36-7 on the season and 13-5 in Big 12 play, while Kansas dropped to 17-20 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
Arizona jumped out to an early lead in the opening inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Kansas wasn't able to get anything going in its first plate appearances, but the Jayhawks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Olivia Bruno launched a home run to left field — her sixth of the season.
Freshman Kennedy Diggs took the mound for the Jayhawks to start the third inning and put together a solid performance against the 13th-ranked team in the country. Diggs threw a scoreless third inning and recorded two strikeouts while allowing three hits on the day.
After being honored before the game, senior Katie Brooks replaced Diggs in the circle to finish the game for the Jayhawks in the top of the fifth inning. Brooks recorded her 29th strikeout of the season and the 192nd of her career.
Kansas was never able to recover from Arizona's dominant first inning and fell 11-1 in the series finale. The Wildcats swept the series 3-0.Â
