LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women's tennis was selected to compete in the 2025 NCAA Tennis Tournament, the NCAA announced on Monday, marking Kansas' 14th NCAA Tournament all-time.
The Jayhawks will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to take on South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 2 at 12 p.m. CT.
"This is a place we expect our program to be every year, in the NCAA Tournament, so we're really excited to be back," head coach Todd Chapman said. "It's a great regional with South Carolina and the host North Carolina and VCU, so we'll be excited to play South Carolina on Friday."
This year's tournament appearance marks the seventh time the Jayhawks have been selected for the NCAA Tournament under head coach Todd Chapman and the 14th time in program history. Kansas last appeared in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where the Jayhawks defeated No. 40 Charlotte, 4-2, before falling to No. 3 NC State in the second round.
Kansas enters the 2025 NCAA Tournament with a 14-11 record, ranked No. 37 in the latest ITA team rankings. The Jayhawks went 7-6 in Big 12 Conference play and recorded wins over No. 72 Colorado, No. 26 Arizona State, No. 33 TCU, No. 57 Iowa State and No. 53 Kansas State. In the Big 12 Conference Tournament, the Jayhawks knocked off No. 9-seeded TCU, 4-2, before falling to No. 1 seed Texas Tech in the Big 12 Conference Quarterfinals, 4-1.
"I think we've been playing our best tennis in the last month of the season," Chapman said. "We're excited about what's next and the opportunity to keep going."
The Jayhawks are led by senior Gracie Mulville in singles, who has ranked as high as No. 67 in the ITA Singles Rankings this spring and has compiled a 13-7 overall record at No. 1 singles for the Jayhawks. Sophomore Kyoka Kubo, last year's ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year, has a 13-6 overall record in singles this spring, including an 11-5 mark at No. 3 singles.
In doubles play, Kansas' duo of Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren are ranked No. 26 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings with a 12-8 at No. 1 doubles record this spring.
South Carolina enters its 34th NCAA Tournament appearance after a 14-11 overall record and a 9-8 SEC conference record during the 2025 season. Coached by head coach Kevin Epley, the Gamecocks are led by Sarah Hamner who sits at 10-6 this season in No. 1 singles. In doubles play, South Carolina is led by Kaitlyn Carnicella and Sarah Hamner with an 8-4 record in No. 1 doubles.
If Kansas defeats South Carolina, the Jayhawks will take on the winner of North Carolina vs. VCU on Saturday, May 4 at 3 p.m. CT. The NCAA Super Regionals will then take place from May 9-11 with the NCAA Team Championship taking place May 15-18 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
