GREENWOOD, Ind. — Three Kansas men's golfers have received the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic At-Large All-District honors. Senior
Gunnar Broin was joined by juniors
Luke Honner and
Will King on the team, the CSC announced Tuesday afternoon.Â
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. A student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Specific requirements for golf athletes include being in the lineup for 70 percent of the team's scoring throughout the season, or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.
The trio of Broin, Honner and King helped set new program records both in the classroom and on the course, with a program-best spring GPA of 3.74. They also led the team to its ninth-consecutive NCAA Regional Selection.
Broin, a Shorewood, Minnesota, native, started his collegiate journey at Colorado State University for two seasons before transferring to the University of Kansas for the final three years of his career. After securing a 70.83 scoring average in 2024-25 – the lowest single-season mark at KU since at least 1986-87 – the senior earned a spot on the NCAA Division I PING All-Central Region Team. An All-Big 12 Academic First Team selection last season, Broin posted a 3.54 GPA and graduated this past May with a degree in Communications Studies and a minor in Business.Â
Honner, who grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, finished his first year as a Jayhawk after transferring from the University of South Dakota, where he spent his first two seasons. The junior held a 3.78 GPA this past academic year while majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sports Management.
King completed his third season with the Jayhawks and has spent his entire career at the University of Kansas. The native of Olathe, Kansas, made program history earlier this month as the first Jayhawk recognized as the Big 12 Men's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year. Last season, he was a first team All-Big 12 Academic Selection as well as a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, just the 11th in Kansas Men's Golf history. Working towards his Bachelor's degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental biology, King has a 4.0 grade point average and is set to graduate in the spring of 2026.Â
The three Kansas men's golfers are eligible for the CSC Men's At-Large All-America Team, which will be released on July 8.
