LAWRENCE, Kan. – After extending their sweep streak to four matches with a 3-0 win over Wichita State on Tuesday, No. 17 Kansas (7-4) remains on the road this weekend for the three matches in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Jayhawks will face Omaha on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. CT before playing a Sunday doubleheader against South Florida at 10 a.m. CT and No. 18 Creighton at 5 p.m. CT.
The Jayhawks will see a familiar opponent in No. 18 Creighton, which handed Kansas a narrow 3-2 loss earlier this year at the Opening Spike Classic. The rematch gives Kansas the chance to avenge that loss and test itself once again against a sixth Top 25 opponent this season.
"I'm very appreciative of how the team has handled being on the road for five straight weeks," said head coach
Matt Ulmer. "We've learned a lot about ourselves and made great strides. This weekend gives us the opportunity to play three strong teams, and I expect us to continue to grow and learn how to play better as a unit."
Kansas has been firing on all cylinders lately. In the win over Wichita State, the Jayhawks dominated in kills 43–29 and blocks 13.5–5, while also holding a marked advantage in hitting percentage, .220 to .016.
Jovana Zelenovic led the way with 11 kills and six block assists, while
Reese Ptacek contributed nine kills and five blocks.
Rhian Swanson added eight kills, and libero
Ryan White posted 14 digs.
Cristin Cline dished out 38 assists, helping keep the offense efficient throughout.
Kansas' production this season highlights both depth and consistency, as the Jayhawks lead the Big 12 and sit near the top of the NCAA charts in several statistical areas. Across their matches, KU has recorded 542 kills, which is second in the nation and first in the Big 12, along with 502 assists, which ranks ninth nationally and first in the conference. The Jayhawks have also totaled 99 blocks, a mark that sits second in the nation.
Following the Omaha Tournament, Kansas will open Big 12 play with its first home match of the season, hosting No. 8 Arizona State.
