LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas Track & Field team is scheduled to travel to Manhattan, Kan. for a second straight meet to participate in the DeLoss Dodds Invitational. The two day meet is set to span from January 30-31 at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track in Manhattan, Kansas.
Events are scheduled to span from 11 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. CT on Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Last time out the Jayhawks had a handful of successful performances at the Thane Baker Invitational, finishing with 12 podium finishes and five first place finishers in Ashton Barkdull (men's pole vault), Mason Meinershagen (women's pole vault), Quenton Walion (mile), Maddie Fey (shot put) and Sam Trumble (3,000 meters open).
Kansas will now look to repeat some success and build upon it, "I am excited for this weekend," Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said, "I think there's been some steps that we have had since last meet and hopefully we can show improvement. It will be exciting to see some of our multi events compete, and that will be a step up for our program because I think that is an area we want to continue to do well in."
Between the Thane Baker Invitational and the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, USTFCCCA released its first set of Track & Field Rankings Index (TFRI) with the Kansas men's team coming in at 36th in the country and the women's team ranked 50th.
The Jayhawks are scheduled to take on a slew of other highly ranked teams this weekend, competing against Oklahoma (men's team ranked sixth, women's team ranked 70th), Baylor (103, 19), Air Force (27, NR), Iowa State (42, 48), Nebraska (23,7) and Kansas State (3, 34), among others.
On Friday, the meet is scheduled to begin with the pentathlon events at 10:45 a.m. The Heptathlon is split up between Friday and Saturday. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday and continuing on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Field events will begin on Friday with the women's weight throw at 3:45 p.m., followed by the women's pole vault at 4 p.m. The men's and women's high jump is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. before the men's weight throw at 5:15 p.m.
Four World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze events are scheduled to take place with the women's pole vault and men's high jump at 7:20 p.m., and the men's long jump and women's long jump at 7:35 p.m. Kansas will be represented by Meinershagen in the women's pole vault.
The field events will conclude on Saturday with the women's long jump kicking things off at 1:45 p.m. followed by the women's triple jump at 2:15 p.m. and the women's shot put at 2:30 p.m. The men's pole vault is set for 4 p.m. and the men's shot put is at 4:15 p.m. to wrap up the field events before two more World Athletics events.
Track events will begin on Friday with seven events before concluding on Saturday with 22 more. Friday's track events kick off with the 800 meter run at 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., followed by the 200 meter dash at 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. respectively.
The women's and men's 3,000 meters will wrap up Friday's track events at 5:55 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., respectively. The bulk of the track events will be run on Saturday, starting with the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries at 2:05 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. for the women and men, followed by the 60 meter dash preliminaries at 2:30 and 2:45 p.m.
The mile races are scheduled for 2:55 p.m. and 3:10 p.m., followed by the 60 meter hurdles finals at 3:25 and 3:30 p.m, this time with the men's before the women's. The women's 400 meter dash and 400 meters invite are scheduled for 3:40 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. with the men's 400 meters at 4:20 p.m.
If any Kansas athletes qualify, they will run in the 60 meter dash finals at 4:50 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. before the 600 yard runs at 5 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. The women's and men's 1,000 meter runs will take place at 5:20 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. before the mile invite races at 5:40 p.m. and 5:50.
The entire meet will wrap up with the women's 4x400 meter relay at 6 p.m. and the men's 4x400 meter relay at 6:15 p.m. Saturday evening.
"We hope to continue to see our great people perform well, but we have to be diligent in making sure that not only our top finishers, but everyone continues to step up as well. This is an opportunity to compete, and any opportunity to compete is a great opportunity." Redwine concluded.
