STANFORD, Calif. -Â Fresh off of a team victory at the Marilynn Smith Invitational, Kansas women's golf will travel to Stanford, California for the PlayForHer Stanford Invitational, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Course. The Jayhawks will compete across three days from October 16-18.
Kansas is one of 17 teams to take part in the event. The Jayhawks and hosting Stanford Cardinal are joined by Virginia, Northwestern, Santa Clara, Iowa State, San Jose State, UCLA, SMU, Cal State Fullerton, USC, Colorado, UC Davis, Pepperdine, Michigan, California and Oregon State.Â
2026 will be Kansas' first year competing at the event.
"Very excited to be invited to this tournament. It is a very strong field with a lot of West Coast teams that are typically very strong," Kansas head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "We're looking forward to playing Stanford Golf Course. This is the first time in a few years I've been back, and maybe the first time ever for KU."Â
Kuhle added that "this golf course is pretty similar to what we've been playing on. It's challenging off the tee and rewards great ball striking, and if you're doing those things well you can have a lot of birdie opportunities this week. There are five par threes and a couple reachable par fives that will be to our advantage with our length."
Established in 2022, PlayforHer is a women's college golf initiative dedicated to honoring those who have fought, are fighting, or may one day fight breast cancer. Over the past three years, the women's college golf community has come together to raise more than $620,000 for life-saving breast cancer research—helping advance innovative treatments while sharing the powerful stories of the women who inspire us every day. This year, the players competing at the Stanford Intercollegiate are proudly playing for Christine Romer.Â
The Jayhawks will travel the five golfers from their "A" squad at the Marilynn Smith, fifth year Anna Wallin, senior Lyla Louderbaugh, junior Ebba Nordstedt, sophomore Kinslea Jones, and freshman Hannah Hall, with "B" squad leader freshman Elizabeth Wilson joining the team for the week.
"Really proud of how the ladies have taken some time to reset and refocus after our win last week, but also have worked hard to prepare for this event. I'm very excited for how we will play," Kuhle said. "We're going with the same lineup, and I feel like this is a competitive team that has a chance to go low every round. We'll be focusing on our ball striking and around the greens, chipping and putting in the practice round and hope to be ready to go and playing our best golf come Friday."
Nordstedt led the way for Kansas at the Marilynn Smith, collecting her second-consecutive podium finish at the event with a second-place score, two shots back of the winner.Â
Jones pieced together a strong first two rounds, closing out the podium places with a third-place effort, one shot behind Nordstedt.
Wallin and Hall finished just behind the two in fifth and sixth respectively, their highest finishes of the season thus far.Â
Louderbaugh finished just outside of the top 10 in 13th, while Wilson wrapped up the week tied for 10th, her first career top-10 placement.
