STANFORD, Calif. - Kansas women's golf finished fifth at the PlayForHer Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Club in Stanford, California, Sunday. The Jayhawks shot a three-round at 864 (+12), two shots behind fourth place Northwestern. Host Stanford won the tournament with a final score of 824 (-28).
Virginia (843, -9), and USC (845, -7) joined Stanford in the top three, finishing second and third, respectively.
"It was a really solid finish. It was really close between us and five or six teams for the top five and we finished really well," Kansas head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "Anna Wallin had two solid birdies and we made some really great pars. Overall, I'm really happy with our performance and how we competed against the best here in California. I think our ball striking was really superb this week and we hit a lot of greens, and had a lot of opportunities for birdies, which is why we made a lot of birdies and we had a lot of pars."
Kuhle added, "I think we're going to continue to work hard and continue to work on our short game and putting. We're a very good ball striking team and aggressive on par fives and I think that showed this week. I'm really, really happy with our freshman Hannah Hall finishing low on the team this week."
Hall led the way for Kansas, finishing in a tie for 15th with a final score of 210 (E). Hall posted a low-scoring opening round, carding an eagle on the opening hole before wrapping up the day with a 67 (-4).Â
Lyla Louderbaugh was the second-highest finishing Jayhawk, finishing alone in 30th. Like Hall, Louderbaugh marked an eagle in her final round of action, wrapping up the weekend with a 214 (+4).
One shot behind Louderbaugh in a tie for 31st was Ebba Nordstedt. Nordstedt carded nine birdies across her three rounds to wrap up a 215 (+5) outing.Â
Wallin was the fourth Jayhawk to finish in the top 40. Like Nordstedt, Wallin tallied nine birdies across three rounds and finished two shots behind Wallin at 217 (+7).Â
Kinslea Jones finished just outside of the top 50, in a tie for 51st. Jones' strongest round came in her second round, where she posted an even-par 71. Jones concluded the weekend with a 221 (+11).Â
Playing as an independent and coming off of her first collegiate top-10, Elizabeth Wilson finished tied for 90th at 234 (+24).Â
"It was a total team effort. Everyone counted toward the team total and contributed and Coach Bidne and I are really proud of how we showed up and competed against the best. I think we're getting better every weekend and we look forward to a great finish of the fall season next week," Kuhle said.
