TAMPA, Fla. — Kansas returns to Tampa this weekend to continue its early-season stretch in Florida, entering the Fonesca Memorial Tournament at USF Softball Stadium from Feb. 12–14. The Jayhawks will face Indiana State, Boston College and tournament host South Florida before wrapping up the weekend against DePaul and Yale.
Kansas enters the tournament with momentum after a 5–3 win over FGCU on Tuesday night, powered by a two-home run performance from
Hailey Cripe. The Jayhawks built an early lead, weathered a midgame push from the Eagles and answered with Cripe's second blast of the night before the pitching staff and defense combined to close out the victory.
"We are excited to get back on the dirt again and compete," said head coach
Jennifer McFalls. "It's early and we are still working through a lot with our team, so every opportunity we have to face a different opponent is impactful. We are continuing to grow and learn a lot about things we need to work on, but overall I'm really proud of the direction we are headed."
The five-team field features a mix of conference champions and postseason-caliber programs. DePaul enters the weekend undefeated, while USF brings an experienced lineup and strong offense. Boston College and Indiana State add depth to the field, with Yale set to play its first games of the 2026 season.
Offensively, Kansas has leaned on the bats of
Campbell Bagshaw,
Aynslee Linduff and
Anna Soles early in the season, while Cripe leads the Jayhawks in RBIs after her recent power surge. In the circle,
Chloe Barber and
Kaelee Washington headline the pitching staff as Kansas continues to establish roles during the opening weeks of the season.
