TAMPA, Fla. – Kansas had a dominant Saturday, sweeping a pair of run-rule victories over DePaul (11-0) and Yale (12-0) behind powerful hitting and shutdown pitching. The Jayhawks secured their third shutout and run-rule win of the season, improving to 7-4 overall.
Kansas combined a powerful offense with dominant pitching in back-to-back run-rule wins. They scored 11 runs on 10 hits against DePaul. Kennedy Diggs threw a five-inning shutout. The Jayhawks followed with 12 runs on 11 hits against Yale, with the Kansas pitching staff holding the Bulldogs to just four hits and one error. Across both games, Kansas' balanced attack and strong pitching fueled decisive victories.
"I'm really proud of our team, our chemistry, energy, and the fight they've shown all week. Our offense has been exceptional, scoring 23 runs over two games, which not only fueled the team but also allowed our pitchers to settle in and perform at their best," said head coach Jennifer McFalls."On the mound, our pitchers were strong and competitive, closing out games and keeping the team in control. At the end of the day, it's been a true team effort, and I'm proud of the way everyone stayed ready and supported each other whenever their number was called."
How It Happened | vs. DePaul
- Kansas wasted no time jumping in front in the first inning. Presley Limbaugh worked a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch before Aynslee Linduff lined an RBI single down the right-field line to give the Jayhawks a 1–0 lead.
- In the circle for Kansas, Kennedy Diggs retired DePaul without allowing a run to keep the early advantage intact.
- The offense broke things open in the second. After Bailey Amezcua reached with a single and Linduff drew a walk, Anna Soles launched a three-run home run to center field, pushing the lead to 4–0 and giving Kansas early momentum.
- Both teams were quiet in the third inning before the Jayhawks exploded again in the fourth. Limbaugh and Linduff opened the frame with back-to-back singles, setting the stage for Soles to drive a two-RBI triple to center. Two batters later, Ella Boyer delivered a two-run home run to right field, capping a four-run inning and stretching the Kansas lead even further to 8-0.
- Kansas continued to apply pressure in the fifth. Limbaugh reached to start the inning and later scored on an RBI walk from Hailey Cripe. With the bases loaded, Boyer was hit by a pitch to force in another run, and Brinley Ramirez followed with an RBI walk to plate the third run of the inning as Kansas maintained full control through five innings, and pushed the lead to 11-0
- In the bottom of the fifth, with Kansas back on defense, Diggs took the circle and, with strong support from her defense, helped the Jayhawks close out the game. Kansas recorded a quick pop-up to shortstop, followed by a strikeout from Diggs. Despite DePaul putting runners in scoring position, a foul ball to third was snagged by Karsen Griggs to end the game, giving Kansas an 11-0 victory in five innings.
