Kansas Caps Road Trip with Series-Clinching Win at BYU
3/28/2026 5:49:00 PM | Softball
Kansas homered four times in the contest, with long balls from Ella Boyer, Hailey Cripe, Campbell Bagshaw and September Flanagan, while also collecting multiple doubles as part of a 15-hit performance.
"I'm proud of how we finished the weekend," head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "Our hitters came alive in the middle innings with extra-base hits and home runs, and the team stayed focused throughout. It was a complete effort on both offense and defense, and it's great to see everyone contributing when it counts."
The last time Kansas secured three conference series wins in a season came in 2024, when the Jayhawks earned series victories over Iowa State, Houston and Baylor. Kansas will look to continue that momentum next weekend when it hosts Arizona State.
How It Happened | vs BYU
- Kansas opened the game on offense but was unable to push a run across, sending the Jayhawks to the field with Chloe Barber earning the start in the circle.
- BYU threatened in the bottom of the second, loading the bases with two outs. The Cougars scratched across a run on a shallow infield hit before Kansas recorded the third out on a foul fly along the third-base line, trailing 1–0.
- The Jayhawks responded in the third. Presley Limbaugh led off with a single before Ella Boyer launched her 14th career home run to deep right field, giving Kansas a 2–1 lead. Hailey Cripe followed with a back-to-back home run to extend the advantage to 3–1.
- BYU trimmed the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly, but Kansas answered immediately in the next frame. Campbell Bagshaw led off the fourth with a solo home run to right-center to make it 4–2. After Kadence Stafford reached on a walk and advanced to third through productive outs, Limbaugh delivered again with an RBI single to push the lead to 5–2.
- Barber continued to work efficiently in the circle, recording a strikeout in the fifth to strand a BYU runner in scoring position and preserve the three-run cushion.
- Kansas broke the game open in the sixth inning with a flurry of extra-base hits. Bailey Amezcua doubled, Limbaugh followed with a run-scoring double, and Cripe added another double to bring home a run. Anna Soles kept the line moving with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 8–2.
- September Flanagan capped the inning with a two-run home run, pushing Kansas into double digits at 10–2.
- Lizzy Ludwig entered in relief for Barber, who finished her outing after six strong innings and 111 pitches.
- Kansas closed out the game to secure the 10–3 victory and the conference series win, finishing with 15 hits, four home runs and multiple doubles across seven innings.
