LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas Track and Field team is scheduled to compete in Azusa, Calif. at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16-18.
Last weekend, four Kansas multi event athletes competed in the same meet's multis section, with Conor Dunback winning the decathlon B group.
"It's going to be a really good opportunity to build upon where we are at as a team, and correct mistakes that we have made in the past," Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said. "This is a very good meet with good competition and I think our athletes are ready to compete… We'll have to go out and do what we do best, and compete at a high level."
In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, the Jayhawks' men's team is ranked No. 29 nationally and is the fourth highest ranked team in the Big 12. The men also have the fifth best ranked pole vault group in the country, led by national leader Anthony Meacham, the 15th best 800 meters group and the 16th best 1,500 meters group. The women's team is ranked No. 51 nationally.
Thursday's events will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the women's 10,000 meter run open. The morning events will consist of the 10,000 meter run opens while Thursday's evening events will be the 3,000 meter steeplechases and the 10,000 meter invites.
Friday's events kick off with the 5,000 meter open runs, beginning at 9 a.m. The track events will continue all day Friday, with the afternoon events consisting of the 800 meter run open and invite sections and the 100 meter dash open, invite and elite sections. Friday evening track events includes the 5,000 meters open group A and the 5,000 meter invite sections.
The field events will begin on Friday with the women's high jump open at 12 p.m. The high jump invitationals will follow the women's high jump open. The women's triple jump open will begin at 2 p.m., with the men's at 3 p.m. and the invitational sections to follow. The men's high jump open section will take place at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the field events happening at Azusa Pacific, Citrus College will also host the women's hammer throw at 1 p.m. and men's hammer throw at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Track events will start Saturday at 10:20 a.m. with the 1,500 meter open C sections. The 4x100 meter relays, 400 meters, 100 meter dashes, 110 meter hurdles, 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meters and 4x400 meter relays will continue throughout the afternoon on Saturday.
Saturday evening will consist of the 1,500 meter B and A open sections, along with the invite and elite sections.
Saturday's field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's javelin invitational. The shot put open sections, discus throw, javelin open sections, long jump open sections, pole vault open sections, shot put invitationals, discus throws, pole vault invitationals and long jump invitationals will all take place Saturday afternoon into the evening.
