LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball returns home to continue Big 12 play, as the Jayhawks host Iowa State in a three game series at Arrocha Ballpark April 24-25.Â
Due to impending weather, Friday will be a doubleheader with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, and game two at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT. Senior Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, and post-game recognition of the seven Jayhawk seniors. Kansas currently sits in a tie for third in the Big 12, while Iowa State is in seventh place heading into the weekend.Â
Kansas (30–15, 11-7 Big 12) is looking to get back on track after dropping its first Big 12 Conference series to UCF. The Kansas offense continues to rank at the top of the Big 12 as the Jayhawks rank in the top three in the conference in doubles, batting average, slugging percentage, RBIs, home runs, home runs per game, triples and total bases. Kansas enters the weekend with a 5-1 record in conference series, and have won six of their last seven series overall.Â
"We're excited about the weekend," Kansas head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "We have our senior ceremony on Saturday, which is always emotional, but these seven seniors that we have right now have made such an impact on our program, and they're just tremendous leaders on and off the field. So it's going to be a fun weekend for them."
In the series finale against UCF, Kansas scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead, off of a throwing error that scored Campbell Bagshaw from third base, and a three-run home run from Hailey Cripe. Lila Partridge shined in the circle for the Jayhawks, throwing a complete game, including six shutout innings. Kansas went into the seventh inning up 4-0, and despite UCF's late rally, the Jayhawks held them off and secured the Sunday victory, 4-2.Â
Iowa State (27-19, 7-11 Big 12) enters the series with one of the top offenses in the Big 12. The Cyclone offense leads the Big 12 in doubles (90), and ranks in the top five in the conference in hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage and walks. Iowa State is led by senior infielder Reagan Bartholomew, who leads the team in batting average (.420), runs (49), hits (60), home runs (13), total bases (114), OPS (1.300) and walks (36).
