LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas Track and Field team is scheduled to compete in Fayetteville, Ark., at the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday, April 24th. A small group of throwers will also compete both Friday and Saturday, April 25th, at the OU Alumni O'Ring Open.Â
"The team is looking forward to competing this weekend as John McDonnell is a true legend in the world of track and field, and the meet is on that same level," Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said. "He was a great friend and boss that required a level of expectation that made everyone want to contribute. So, as we prepare for the upcoming weekend we will have great expectations. The SEC has a great track tradition so to compete against those schools is exciting and I believe that it can help us as we prepare for the Big 12 and postseason."
In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, the Kansas women's team climbed 16 spots to be ranked No. 35 nationally while the men's team is ranked No. 31. The men have the third best ranked pole vault group in the country, composed of Anthony Meacham (No. 1 nationally) and Bryce Barkdull (No. 3).
The first event the Jayhawks are scheduled to compete in on Friday will be the men's 5,000 meter run at 1:30 p.m. CT, followed by the women's at 1:50 p.m.
The order of track events will be as follows: 4x100 meter relay, 3,000 meter steeplechase, 110 meter hurdles, 100 meter hurdles, 400 meters, 100 meters, 400 meter hurdles, 800 meters open, 200 meters, 1,500 meters, 800 meters invitational, 4x400 meters relay and the 3,000 meters.
The first field event that the Jayhawks will compete in will be the women's pole vault at 3 p.m. They will then compete in the men's long jump and high jump at 3:30 p.m., women's long jump at 4:45 p.m., women's high jump at 6:15 p.m., men's pole vault at 6:30 p.m., women's triple jump at 6:45 p.m. and men's javelin at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday at the OU Alumni O'Ring Open, the Jayhawks are scheduled to compete in the women's javelin throw at 12 p.m., the women's hammer throw at 2:30 p.m. and the men's hammer throw at 4:30 p.m.Â
They will also compete on Saturday in the women's shot put at 12 p.m., the men's discus throw at 1 p.m. and the women's discus throw at 3 p.m.
