No. 7 Kansas Falls 9-8 to Creighton in 13 Innings
5/5/2026 11:42:00 PM | Baseball
Kansas scored eight runs in the first six innings with three in the second, four in the fourth and one in the sixth, but that was all the Jayhawks were able to get for the night. KU could not push across any runs in the final seven innings. Josh Dykhoff hit his 11th home run in the game and Cade Baldridge had three hits for his team-high 23rd multi-hit game of the season.
KU used eight pitchers in the contest. Carter Fink, Riane Ritter, Boede Rahe and Manning West each had scoreless relief appearances.
Despite the defeat, Kansas still holds a 37-12 overall record this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Craighton (27-19) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. A 2-out, 2-run single from Connor Capece opened the scoring.
• Kansas grabbed the lead in the second inning with a two-out rally. A two-run single by Baldridge and an RBI single from Tyson LeBlanc gave Kansas a 3-2 advantage.
• The Bluejays answered back in the bottom of the second with their own three-run inning. Two singles drove in three runs and put Creighton ahead 5-3.
• The Jayhawks answered back with four runs in the fourth inning to reclaim the lead. Dariel Osoria had a two-run double, Dykhoff drove in a run on an RBI fielder's choice and Osoria eventually came in to score on a fielding error. That put Kansas in front 7-5.
• Creighton trimmed the game to 7-6 with an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the fourth.
• KU brought its lead back to two runs with a solo home run from Dykhoff in the sixth.
• The Bluejays kept battling though and tied the game at 8-8 in the seventh inning.
• Neither team had much going offensively in the eighth, ninth or 10th innings.
• Creighton threatened in the 11th and 12th innings, but West was able to escape both innings and left runners stranded in scoring position.
• The 13th is where it ended when North sent a ball out to right-center field for the game-winner.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"Obviously, it was a tough game. We put some runs up early and thought we had a chance to keep them off the board there and they scored two in the seventh. Then, we just couldn't get anything going offensively. They had some relievers that came in and did a really nice job. I thought Unga was really good. They commanded the strike zone. These midweek games are tough. When you schedule tough, you run into this sometimes. It's a great reminder, probably to all of us, that baseball still happens and you have to be sharp. Great opportunity for us to learn and get ready to play this weekend." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
