LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas track & field is set to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week, June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.Â
"I'm really excited for our athletes and am glad that we are here," Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said. "I'm looking forward to the competition because they have earned the right to be here and I'm excited to compete. The high level of competition is great and it's great for the athletes, they will have to fall back on what they believe in and on their preparation, and they are prepared and should be ready to compete."
Kansas will be represented by 11 Jayhawks at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including John Swabik (men's decathlon), Emmah Jemutai (women's 800 meters, women's 1,500 meters), Mason Meinershagen (women's pole vault), Anthony Meacham (men's pole vault), Stephen Maroro (men's 10,000 meters), Michael Joseph (men's 400 meters), Ethel Amissah (women's 4x400 meter relay), Deshana Skeete (women's 4x400 meter relay), Pearl Awanya (women's 4x400 meter relay), Sidney Smith (women's 4x400 meter relay) and Sofia Sluchaninova (women's discus).
The NCAA Outdoor Championship begins on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT, with the decathlon 100 meter dash, and will continue through Saturday. The meet will stream live on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN+, with live results

In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, the Kansas men's team was ranked No. 37 in the country and the women's team was ranked No. 39.Â
Swabik will kick off the Jayhawks in the decathlon, beginning Wednesday with the at 3 p.m. CT. He will then continue in the decathlon with the long jump at 3:40 p.m., the shot put at 4:55 p.m., the high jump at 6:10 p.m., and the 400 meters at 9:43 p.m.
Also on Wednesday, Meacham will jump in the men's pole vault finals at 7:35 p.m. before Joseph will compete in the men's 400 meter dash semifinals at 8:41 p.m. and Maroro will run in the 10,000 meters finals at 9:56 p.m.
If Joseph finishes as a top two runner in his heat or has a top three time out of the non-automatic qualifiers, he will advance to the finals on Friday.
Swabik will also kick off the events on Thursday with the second half of the decathlon, starting at 12:45 p.m. with the 110 meter hurdles. He will then compete in the discus at 1:35 p.m., the pole vault at 2:45 p.m., the javelin at 5:15 p.m. and finally the 1,500 meters at 9:43 p.m.
Jemutai will be the first female to compete for the Jayhawks, running in the 1,500 meters semifinals at 7:21 p.m. Following the race she will then also run in the 800 meters semifinal at 8:58 p.m.Â
Meinershagen will also compete on Thursday in the women's pole vault finals at 7:35 p.m. The women's 4x400 meter relay team will conclude the evening in the semifinals round, beginning at 10:36 p.m.
In order to advance to the finals on Saturday, Jemutai will need to finish top five in her heat, or have a next two best time, in the 1,500 meters. In the 800 meters she will need to finish top two in her heat or have a top three next best time. The women's relay team will need to finish as a top two team in their heat or have a top three next best time to advance.Â
If Joseph advances to the finals, he will compete in the 400 meters at 8:02 p.m. on Friday.Â
On Saturday, Sluchaninova will throw in the women's discus finals at 1:30 p.m. If Jemutai advances, the 1,500 meter run final is scheduled for 7:12 p.m., while the 800 meter run final will take place at 8:43 p.m. The women's 4x400 meter relay final is scheduled for 9:21 p.m.
The top eight athletes in each event will earn first team All-American honors, while the 9th-16th place finishers will earn second team All-American honors and the 17th-24th will be honorable mentions.Â
The meet marks the first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance for Swabik, Jemutai, Maroro, Meacham, Ethel Amissah, Pearl Awanya, Sidney Smith, and Deshana Skeete.Â
Last season, Sluchaninova earned second team All-American honors in the discus throw, while Meinershagen earned second team honors in the 2024 pole vault and Joseph earned second team honors in the 400 meter run in 2023.
Swabik earned second team All-American honors during the indoor season in the heptathlon, while Meacham and Meinershagen both achieved first team awards in the pole vault.
