TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas soccer will spend the week out west, beginning with a match against the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
"We're coming off a good week where we picked up four points against two really good teams," head coach Nate Lie said. "We have to build on that this week. This is the time of the season to be playing your best soccer. Our hope is that we continue to play the way we did in the last couple matches on Thursday against Arizona."
Kansas (6-5-4, 3-4-1 Big 12) earned a draw against BYU and a 2-0 shutout victory against Utah last week to pick up four points in the standings. The win against Utah was the third conference victory of the season, which is the most since the 2020 season. The shutout was also the fifth of the season for KU.
Freshman midfielder
Jillian Gregorski scored the game-winning goal in the match against Utah. She leads the team this season with six goals and is tied for the most points on the team with 13. The second goal for Kansas against Utah was the result of an own goal. The Jayhawks have forced an own goal in back-to-back matches.
Junior forward
Lexi Watts continues her strong second half of the season as she scored a game-tying goal against BYU on Oct. 10. Watts has five goals in the last eight matches. Her four goals in conference games are tied for the third-most in league play.
ABOUT ARIZONA
Arizona (9-4-2, 4-3-1 Big 12) has gone unbeaten at home this season with a record of 5-0-1. The Wildcats have won two of their last three matches against BYU and UCF. Nicole Dallin and Gianna Christiansen have each scored seven goals for Arizona this season. Christiansen has four game-winning goals this season which is tied for the most in the Big 12. Olivia Ramey is the starting goalkeeper for the Wildcats and has posted the second-best goals against average in the conference at 0.69.
SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and Arizona have only met twice in program history, with both meetings coming at neutral sites. Kansas has a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series. The first match came on Sept. 18, 1998 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with Kansas winning 1-0. The most recent contest was on Sept. 6, 2013 in Tempe, Arizona, and ended in a 1-1 draw.
