
Kansas Completes Three Game Slate at Arrocha Ballpark

LAWRENCE, Kan.- Kansas softball competed against the University of Baker, University of Central Missouri, and Missouri this weekend at Arrocha Ballpark.Â
GAME 1
The Jayhawks got their first score of the game in the bottom of the second inning after a sacrifice fly from junior infielder Emma Tatum, to bring in sophomore pinch runner Madi Hays.Â
Freshman pitcher Kaelee Washington started the game for the Jayhawks and put together an impressive performance. During Washington's three innings, she only allowed one hit, zero runs, and recorded a strikeout.Â
Kansas extended their lead in the third inning after a pair of hits from senior pitcher/utility Oliva Bruno and junior infielder Hailey Cripe to make the score 4-0.Â
Sophomore pitcher Anna Soles stepped up to the mound for the Jayhawks to start the fourth inning. After a slow start to the inning following a Baker home run, Soles was able to finish the inning with back-to-back strikeouts. Soles finished the game with three strikeouts and gave up two hits and one run.Â
The Jayhawks were able to keep the momentum going in the sixth inning, which led to two straight doubles from senior catcher Natalie Marshall and junior catcher Jaeden Murphy. Kansas finished the sixth inning with four hits and five runs making the score 9-1.Â
Bruno finished the game for the Jayhawks on the mound. Bruno tallied three strikeouts and didn't allow a batter to reach base, as Kansas beat Baker with a final score of 9-1.
GAME 2
Kansas carried its momentum from the first game into its matchup against the University of Central Missouri. The Jayhawks got off to a strong start with a grand slam from Marshall in the first inning, giving them an early 4-0 lead.
Kansas extended the lead in the third inning, adding three runs to make it 7-0. The offense continued in the fifth inning with four more runs, highlighted by a home run from sophomore infielder September Flanagan and a triple from Tatum, increasing the lead to 11-0.
The Jayhawks put together an impressive seventh inning, recording three hits, a stolen base, and scoring five runs to extend the lead to 17-0.
Kansas' pitching staff dominated throughout the game. Freshman pitcher Kennedy Diggs started and did not allow a batter to reach base. Junior pitcher Lizzy Ludwig and senior pitcher Katie Brooks closed out the game. As a team, the Jayhawks recorded five strikeouts, allowed only one hit, and gave up zero runs.
Kansas defeated the University of Central Missouri 17-0
GAME 3
Brooks took the mound to start the game, and Kansas held the Tigers scoreless through the first two innings. Missouri got on the board in the third inning, after which Diggs entered the game for the Jayhawks, finishing the inning while allowing no hits and no runs.
The Jayhawks responded in the bottom of the third with two runs. Freshman infielder Kadence Stafford reached first base with a hit, followed immediately by junior outfielder Aynslee Linduff's two-run home run to center field.
Mizzou added a few more runs over the next two innings before Ludwig entered to pitch in the top of the sixth, recording the team's third strikeout of the day.
Kansas cycled through its entire lineup in the sixth inning, scoring five runs on five hits. After being the first Jayhawk to cross the plate in the third inning, Stafford hit a two-run home run over the center field wall. Freshman outfielder Bailey Weber, who started the inning with a single, also scored.
Junior catcher Jaiden Murphy hit a line drive to shortstop, scoring pinch runner Limbaugh for the third run of the inning. Hays and sophomore catcher Hailey Webb were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats, loading the bases. Weber then singled to left field, driving in pinch runner Tatum and freshman infielder Karsen Griggs to close out the bottom of the sixth.
Ludwig struck out a batter in each inning she pitched, finishing with three strikeouts and zero walks.
Murphy collected her second hit of the day with a single in the bottom of the eighth, eventually scoring pinch runner Stafford on a Limbaugh RBI, thanks to a hit to left field.
In the ninth inning, Kansas loaded the bases and scored two runs. Hayes and Marshall both recorded RBIs, driving in Cripe and Griggs.
The Jayhawks finished the day with 10 runs on 13 hits and recorded five strikeouts to wrap up their fall ball weekend.

Kansas Softball will host Ottawa at Arrocha Ballpark on Wednesday, October 9, for their final fall ball game of the season.
