LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer had four players selected to the 2024 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team, the conference office announced Monday. Defender
Caroline Castans, goalkeeper
Sophie Dawe, defender
Olivia Page and forward
Lexi Watts were all voted onto the All-Tournament Team.
Â
Castans finished the tournament with one goal and one assist. She played every minute of the tournament for Kansas. The goal for the Flower Mound, Texas, native came in the first round on a shot that she drilled from near the left elbow of the box into the top right corner of the net. The goal turned into the game-winner. Castans also assisted on the game-winning goal against No. 17 Texas Tech to send Kansas to the tournament final.
Â
Dawe was the only goalkeeper in the tournament to record two shutouts. She made 11 saves for the Jayhawks and countless big plays. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Dawe had the best goals against average in the tournament at 0.46 and her 11 saves were tied for the most. She allowed only two goals the whole tournament and had a save percentage of .846, which was second best among all goalkeepers. Dawe also received Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
Â
Page scored the game-winning goal on a header off a corner kick in the 2-1 victory against No. 17 Texas Tech in the semifinals. Like Castans, the Shawnee, Kansas, was on the field all 371 minutes of the tournament. She was one of the anchors of the back line that held four teams to a combined two goals.
Â
Watts had two goals in the tournament and drew the foul for the game-winning penalty kick in the championship match. A native of Lenexa, Kansas, Watts scored the golden goal in the quarterfinals to push Kansas past West Virginia in the 101st minute. Watts tied for the most goals in the tournament and took the most shots with 13. Following the championship, Watts was named Most Outstanding Offensive Player.
Â
The All-Tournament Team is comprised of 11 student-athletes with four midfielders, three forwards, three defenders and one goalkeeper. The four selections for Kansas were tied for the most by any team.
Â
Kansas claimed its second Big 12 Tournament title in program history on Saturday night.
