"Texas Tech has been on the national scene for a while," head coach Nate Lie said. "We're pretty aware of them and what they do well. It's a different challenge with someone that you haven't played. I'm looking forward to it. It's a nice professional challenge and I also think we tend to do better against teams that haven't seen us before because we feel that we're different than most."
Â
Kansas (11-5-4, 6-4-1 Big 12) had a thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory against West Virginia on Nov. 2 to extend the team's winning streak to six consecutive matches.
Lexi Watts scored the game-winning goal in the 101st minute. She leads the Big 12 and is tied for 10th in the nation with five game-winning goals.
Â
The win streak is tied for the fifth-longest active streak in the nation. Five of the six wins during the streak have come away from Lawrence. The last time Kansas won six matches in a row was during the 2019 season. The Jayhawks have not lost a game since Oct. 5 and have allowed only two goals during the six matches.
Â
Sophie Dawe has played a big role in that as she recorded her seventh solo shutout of the season against West Virginia. Her seven solo shutouts are fourth-most in the conference. Dawe has also posted a 0.89 goals against average this season, which is the fourth-lowest in the league.
Â
Kansas has outscored opponents 13-2 in the last six matches. Watts has scored four goals in the last five games and
Saige Wimes has five assists in the last five contests. The duo of Watts and Wimes up front has been a key down the stretch for Kansas. Watts leads the team in goals and Wimes is tied for the most assists on the squad.
