LAWRENCE, Kan. – Freshman forward
Ebba Cronholm will be competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the World Athletics U20 Championship in Lima, Peru, this upcoming week. Qualifiers are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. CT and the finals are set to be run on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 5:35 p.m. CT.

"I'm just so thankful to get the opportunity and the support from KU," Cronholm said. "All the girls have supported me from the first day here. When they heard about me going to the track and field competition, they all were hyping me up and giving me energy to do it."

A native of Ljungby, Sweden, Cronholm qualified for the 3000-meter steeplechase in the World Athletics U20 Championship after recording a personal-best time of 10:07.29 in July. There will be a total of 29 athletes from 19 different countries in the qualifiers of the event.
Cronholm competed in the European Championships in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, Cronholm qualified for the finals and finished 11th in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The previous year, she finished sixth in the 2000-meter steeplechase.
Cronholm also recently earned nine gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze in the U-19 Track and Field Swedish Championship.

A freshman this season, Cronholm moved to the United States and joined the soccer program at the end of July. Upon her arrival, it was only her second time ever in the United States.
