LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the second straight year, the Kansas Women's Rowing program will host the Boathouse Battle as part of the University of Kansas Family Weekend. The event is set for 3:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 27, at Burcham Park and is free for all wishing to attend.
"The origination for the Boathouse Battle last fall was to celebrate and foster growth in relationships within the Kansas Boathouse and the two teams who call it home – Kansas Rowing and Kansas Crew," said Head Coach Carrie Cook-Callen. "It has also provided an opportunity to invite in our rowing family and friends to get an up close look at the rowing, training, equipment and place their athletes spend a lot of time. It's something a regular home regatta doesn't quite provide. We're looking forward to the second annual Boathouse Battle and celebrating rowing and our student-athletes."
Cook-Callen will deliver opening remarks under the park pavilion before the Jayhawks' three Varsity 4 and two Varsity 8 boats face off against the KU Crew campus club team in a 500-meter sprint.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the team's training spaces. The KU Boathouse is a 14,000 square-foot facility that holds over 70 ergometers for the team's indoor practices. The facility also includes a 90-locker room for the team and a 50-locker room for the public while the lower level stores up to 65 boats.Â
Kansas Rowing encourages fans to head to Mass St. and attend the 3rd Annual Rock Chalk Block Party after the conclusion of the Boathouse Battle. The event is free and will feature games, activities and music headlined by Shaboozy. A full itinerary for the Rock Chalk Block Party can be found here.Â
The Jayhawks will travel to the Head of Oklahoma, Oct. 5-6 in Norman, Oklahoma, before closing out the road trip at the Head of the Charles, Oct. 19-20 in Boston, Massachusetts. Kansas will wrap up their fall season back at home with the Jayhawk Jamboree, Nov. 2.
