GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sport Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday its Academic All-District honorees, which included a trio from Kansas rowing in
Sarah Sutton,
Laura Teska and
Alessandra Vedder.
The three senior rowers each posted a 4.0 GPA this academic year, while racing in the top two boats throughout the duration of the season.Â
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate Laura, Alessandra and Sarah for earning the CSC Academic All-District honor – a first for all three of them," said Kansas Rowing assistant coach
Madison Hovis. "Their achievement is proof that when you aim high and stay committed in both the classroom and on the water, great things happen. Congratulations!"
A coxswain for the Jayhawks the last three seasons, Sutton secured her spot on the academic all-district list after graduating this past spring with a degree in Religious Studies and Jewish Studies while also minoring in history.
In her sophomore and junior seasons, Sutton was named to the Academic All-Big 12 team while also being a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athlete. Last fall, she was recognized as a Dr. Gerald Lage award recipient – the highest academic achievement in the Big 12 Conference – for the 2023-24 academic year.Â
A member of the 2 Varsity 8+ boat, Sutton is continuing her post-college rowing career with the Potomac Boat Club located in Washington D.C. and applying to Naval Officer Candidate School.
Laura Teska continues to stack academic awards to her collection after being named the 2025 Big 12 Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Teska became the first Jayhawk to win the award twice after also being recognized with the honor in 2024. In addition, Teska is a two-time CRCA National-Scholar and Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. She received the Dr. Gerald Lage Award last season and was an Academic All-Big 12 Rookie her freshman year.
Racing on the 1 Varsity 8+ and 2 Varsity 8+ boats this season, Teska helped the top boat to a Big 12 Boat of the Week honor on May 7 and third place finish at the Big 12 Championships.Â
A KU graduate with a degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology, Teska is preparing to move to Boston, Massachusetts with teammates
Karly Larson and
Ava Black. She will attend the New England College of Optometry and commission as an officer in the US Navy this summer to serve as a naval optometrist after receiving her doctorate.
Rounding out the Kansas rowing academic all-district selections is
Alessandra Vedder. Vedder graduated with her degree in Human Biology while minoring in Athletic Coaching in May. Last season, she was named a CRCA Scholar Athlete and onto the Academic All-Big 12 team.
Vedder raced between the 1 Varsity 8+ and 2 Varsity 8+ boats this season and was the program's Oarswoman of the Year, an award given annually to the top KU rower at the conclusion of the season.
Vedder's post-KU plans include achieving her Master of Science in Anesthesia from the University of Kansas City-Missouri while also serving as a coach on the volleyball staff.Â
The three Kansas rowers are eligible for the CSC Women's At-Large All-America Team which will be released on July 8.
