LAWRENCE, Kan. – Laura Teska (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence HS) has become the second rower in Kansas history to earn At-Large Academic All-America honors, announced by College Sport Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday.
Teska, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, posted a 4.00 grade point average this academic year to be named to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team, marking the first time since 2000 when Risa Petty – also a Lawrence native – made First Team. Teska becomes the 13th Jayhawk to be named to the Academic All-America At-Large Team overall.
With an impressive career GPA of 3.99, Teska graduated this past May with her Bachelor's Degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology.
This accolade caps off her exceptional academic career as Teska was the first KU rower to win Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year twice after receiving the honor for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Teska has posted her name onto Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National-Scholar for three straight seasons along with being a two time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. Additionally, she was Gerald Lage Award Recipient, the highest academic achievement in the Big 12 Conference, for the 2023-24 season. Teska has also made the Athletic Director's and College of Liberal Arts and Science Honor Roll for seven-straight semesters and the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team her freshman year.
Also finding success on the water, Teska assisted the 1 Varsity 8+ crew to a third place finish at the Big 12 Championship on May 18, 2025, and Big 12 Boat of the Week honor on May 7, 2025.
Fellow senior teammates Sarah Sutton (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park HS) and Alessandra Vedder (Nettuno, Italy/Wichita Collegiate School) joined Teska on the CSC At-Large All-District Team, also posting a 4.00 GPA in their respective majors this academic year.
Teska is a University of Kansas legacy as both her parents attend KU while her grandfather was a professor at the institution. She is now attending the New England College of Optometry and plans to serve as naval optometrist after receiving her doctorate.
