LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas shutout Wichita State, 10-0, in five innings behind a complete game shutout from freshman Lila Patridge in the home finale at Arrocha Ballpark on Tuesday evening.Â
With the win, Kansas improves to 33-16 (13-8 Big 12) on the season. The Jayhawks won 13 games at home, the most in a season since 2016. Wichita State falls to 32-16 (18-6 AAC) on the season, while Kansas snaps their 12 game winning streak.
"This game was important, it was important to us. I thought we came out and played with a little bit of a chip on our shoulder and made a statement right from the first inning," head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "We've had great crowds and a great fan base all season. I'm really happy for our seniors to walk out of here with a win in their final game on this field."
Partridge pitched five innings, allowing 3 hits and recording 3 strikeouts, marking her third straight complete game. Senior Hailey Cripe went 3-of-3 with 3 RBIs, including a home run in the bottom of the second inning and a double in the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
How It Happened | vs. Wichita State
- In the bottom of the first inning, junior Anna Soles belted a home run to center field with senior Presley Limbaugh on first, to give Kansas a 2-0 lead.
- Senior Campbell Bagshaw batted in Kansas' third run of the first inning on a single through center field, scoring freshman Hailey Cripe. Aysnlee Linduff later hit a sacrifice grounder to score Boyer to make the score 4-0.
- Sophomore Bailey Amezcua knocked in another run with a double, scoring Bagshaw from second to give Kansas a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Cripe launched her 15th home run this season to give Kansas a 6-0 lead.
- Kansas plated another two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Madi Hays scored on a Wichita State error. Two batters later, Cripe doubled to right center to score Limbaugh to put KU up, 9-0.
- Bagshaw added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when she singled to left field to score Cripe to give KU a 10-0 advantage.
- Freshman Lily Patridge closed out a complete game shutout in the top of the fifth to give Kansas a 10-0 victory.Â
