NORMAN, Okla. – Kansas women's tennis will open the NCAA Tournament against No. 6-seed Oklahoma in the first round on Saturday, May 2 at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
Kansas enters the tournament with a 13-10 record and is ranked No. 40 in the latest ITA team rankings. The Jayhawks went 9-4 in Big 12 Conference play and placed fifth in the 16-team league. KU's nine Big 12 wins tied for the most conference wins in school history (1997, 1998, 2002). KU also recorded five ranked wins this season. In the Big 12 Conference Tournament, the No. 5-seed Jayhawks fell to No. 4-seed Arizona. 4-2, in the quarterfinal round.Â
This year's tournament appearance marks the eighth time the Jayhawks have been selected for the NCAA Tournament under head coach Todd Chapman, and the 15th appearance all-time.
The Jayhawks have two players ranked in doubles and singles, with Kyoka Kubo ranked at No. 73 in singles with a 12-6 record this season. The 12 singles wins lead the team lead. Kubo joins
Heike Janse van Vuuren in the doubles rankings, as they are ranked No. 89. The pair is 5-2 on the season.Â
Kansas had two players receive All-Big 12 honors this week, as Kubo was named to the All-Big 12 First Team in singles, while van Vuuren was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team in singles.Â
Oklahoma enters the NCAA Tournament with a 23-5 overall record and a 13-2 SEC conference record during the 2026 season. Coached by Audra Cohen, the Sooners are led by Evialina Laskevic who sits at 12-7 this season in No. 1 singles. In doubles play, Oklahoma is led by Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum with an 15-2 record in No. 1 doubles.
