LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas soccer team hosts Arizona State for its Big 12 Conference home opener on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Rock Chalk Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

"Arizona State is a really good team, and we know we're going to have to come ready to play from the start," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "This is an important weekend for us with two Big 12 matches, and we want to take advantage of the opportunity in front of us. We're looking forward to competing, playing our game and hopefully coming away with two good results."

Kansas played to its first draw of the season at Cincinnati on Sept. 18, starting 0-0-1 in the Big 12 with the 1-1 tie. The Jayhawks scored first in the 66th minute, when Faith Johnston scored off a penalty kick save to take a 1-0 lead. Cincinnati tied the match with a goal in the 80th minute from Tiana Campbell to make the score 1-1. Kansas is unbeaten in four straight matches.
KU moved to 11-16-4 in conference openers all-time, and is 1-1-1 under head coach Nate Lie with the 1-1 draw at Cincinnati. In Big 12 conference home openers, Kansas is 16-12-2 all-time, and is 0-2-0 under Lie. Kansas' last conference home opening win was on Sept. 25, 2020, a 1-0 win over Texas Tech.
Jillian Gregorski and Caroline Castans are tied for the team lead and rank eighth in the Big 12 with four goals each. Livvy Moore leads the Big 12 with six assists, which also ranks tied for 10th nationally, while Sophie Dawe is second in the conference with 809 minutes played. As a team, Kansas ranks third nationally and first in the Big 12 with 9.11 corner kicks per game, while its 20.6 shots per game rank fifth in the country. The Jayhawks also rank fifth in the Big 12 with 20 goals and are tied for fifth with 19 assists.
The Big 12 Soccer Tournament will be held at the brand new Texas Health Mansfield Stadium in Mansfield, Texas, the conference office announced this week. The top eight teams in the final league standings will qualify for the Big 12 Tournament, with conference play concluding Thursday, Nov. 5.
ABOUT ARIZONA STATE
Arizona State enters Thursday's match with a 6-1-2 (1-0-0 Big 12) record after defeating Utah 3-1 in the Big 12 opener on Sept. 18. The Sun Devils are led by Kierra Blundell, who has scored five goals and recorded two assists to total 12 points this season. Goalkeeper Kennedy Zorn has started all nine matches and recorded 22 saves with a goals against average of 0.61. Arizona State was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
SERIES HISTORY
Kansas leads the all-time series over Arizona State 3-1-1, while the series is tied 0-0-1 in matches played in Lawrence (2-2 on Sept. 2, 2012). The last matchup between the Jayhawks and Sun Devils came in the 2024 Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, when KU won 2-1 in the quarterfinal round on Oct. 30, 2024.
