LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women's soccer team will host Arizona in its annual Community Kindness Match in Honor of Regan Gibbs on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Rock Chalk Park. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
Kansas won its first conference home opener since 2020 with a 2-0 victory over Arizona State on Thursday. Jocelyn Herrema scored her second goal of the season in the 33rd minute to give Kansas a 1-0 lead. Caroline Castans added to the lead in the 54th minute with a header, securing the 2-0 victory. Livvy Moore recorded two assists, while the Jayhawks posted their fifth shutout of the season.
In Big 12 conference home openers, Kansas moved to 17-12-2 all-time. The win marked Kansas' first conference home-opening victory since Sept. 25, 2020, when the Jayhawks defeated Texas Tech, 1-0.
Castans leads the team and is tied for sixth in the Big 12 with five goals. Moore leads the Big 12 with eight assists, which also ranks tied for first nationally, while Sophie Dawe ranks second in the conference with 899 minutes played.
As a team, Kansas ranks third nationally and first in the Big 12 with 8.70 corner kicks per game. The Jayhawks' 19.1 shots per game rank ninth nationally. Kansas also ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 22 goals and 21 assists.
ABOUT ARIZONA
Arizona enters Sunday's match with a 3-4-3 record and is 0-0-2 in Big 12 play after playing to a 0-0 draw at Kansas State on Thursday. The Wildcats have three players tied for the team lead in goals and points, with Jessica Bedolla, Kyleigh Johnson and Lainey Swanson each recording two goals and one assist.
Arizona was picked to finish 12th in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and Arizona will meet for the fourth time on Sunday, with the Jayhawks holding a 2-0-1 advantage in the all-time series. The last meeting came on Oct. 17, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona, where Kansas raced out to a 4-0 victory.
MATCH PROMOTION
Sunday's match will serve as Kansas Soccer's annual Community Kindness Match in Honor of Regan Gibbs. The match will provide information about domestic violence resources in the community while raising awareness about domestic violence.
There will be a donation drive in partnership with the Willow Domestic Violence Center for the match where a donation box will be placed at the main gate of Rock Chalk Park on the day of the match. Fans can learn more by clicking here.
