Julia Camillucci joins the Kansas Rowing program as an Assistant Coach, bringing a wealth of experience as a competitive athlete, coach, and leader. A former scholarship athlete at the University of San Diego and San Diego State University, Julia earned her Master’s in Leadership Studies and her Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies, balancing her academic success with a distinguished collegiate rowing career.
Camillucci has coached at multiple levels of rowing, including collegiate, junior, and masters programs. Most recently, she served as an Assistant Coach at Gonzaga University, where she organized novice tryouts, recruited athletes nationally and internationally, and helped lead the team to a second-place finish at the 2025 WCC Championships. She also served as Head Women’s Novice Junior Coach and Assistant Advanced Women’s Masters Coach at the Texas Rowing Center, where she designed training programs, ran practices, and managed assistant coaches while developing athletes’ technical skills and fostering a supportive team culture. Additionally, Camillucci coached junior athletes at OKC Riversport, emphasizing skill development, goal-setting, and enjoyment of the sport.
As an athlete, Camillucci trained at the Oklahoma City National High Performance Center in pursuit of National Team selection and participated in multiple national and international development camps, including the Under-23 National Team Selection Camp and the Nereus Rowing Club in Amsterdam. Her experience competing at the highest levels informs her coaching philosophy, which emphasizes strong fundamentals, mental focus, discipline, and teamwork.
Camillucci also has extensive leadership and administrative experience, having served as a Graduate Assistant for the Executive Associate Athletic Director at San Diego State Athletics, contributing to the creation of SDSU’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan and assisting with media relations, marketing, and program operations across multiple sports. She has been recognized for her athletic and academic achievements, including multiple CRC NCAA Scholar Athlete awards, All-WCC Academic Team honors, and national-level training selections.
Beyond rowing, Camillucci is committed to community engagement and athlete development, volunteering as a coach for Special Olympics San Diego and engaging with local schools to mentor young athletes. Her diverse background, combined with her competitive and leadership experience, makes her a dedicated and dynamic member of the Kansas coaching staff.
