Collin Sexton joined the Kansas Athletics department in August 2021 and currently serves as the Deputy Athletics Director – Chief Strategy Officer, as well as the sport administrator for the Kansas Football program.
Sexton was promoted to Deputy Athletics Director – Chief Strategy Officer in January 2024. In this role, he focuses on a holistic approach for Kansas Athletics’ future in the ever-changing landscape of college athletics. This includes keeping a pulse on every area of athletic departments nationally, tracking industry trends and advising the Director of Athletics on decisions that will impact the department’s future position and success. He also holds oversight over the athletic director’s office, strategic communications units and football relations.
Sexton led the Jayhawks’ Deloitte partnership, the first of its kind, that included a broad scope of work to prepare Kansas Athletics for the changes coming to college athletics. This exercise focused on expense management, revenue generation opportunities, revenue share/name, image and likeness structure, organizational structure/efficiencies and more.
As the sport administrator for the Kansas Football program, Sexton works closely with Head Football Coach Lance Leipold and Director of Athletics Travis Goff on the comprehensive strategy for the Kansas Football program. Amongst a multitude of items, this also includes playing a significant role in the $450M Gateway District Project at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and the renovated and expanded Anderson Family Football Complex. Sexton also engineered KU’s landmark alliance with MMTH resulting in an unprecedented partnership with Kansas Athletics including true business to business opportunities, future facility expansion and the MMTH logo represented on the field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
Immediately upon his arrival in Lawrence, Sexton led the process and creation of the Kansas Athletics Strategic plan, ‘To the Stars’. To The Stars, published in 2022, is an all-encompassing strategic plan that will guide Kansas Athletics for years to come. The process entailed 15 months of discovery, review, formulation and implementation. 100+ constituents ranging from student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, community members and more were engaged and had a hand in its inception.
In addition to that, Sexton serves in implementing several other strategic initiatives both on the internal and external units, as well as Kansas Athletics Development and the NIL strategy, specifically its impact on football. He also serves on the Kansas Athletics External Leadership team.
Sexton came to Kansas from Northwestern where he was the assistant director of athletics leadership giving. While in this capacity, Sexton was a front-line fundraiser, contributing to a record-breaking fundraising campaign of over
$460M to athletics. He worked closely with the men’s and women’s tennis programs as well as the fencing program while in Evanston. The
Abilene, Kansas, native joined the Northwestern staff in February 2019.
Prior to Northwestern, Sexton was the director of football operations/chief of staff at Bowling Green State University. There he managed the day-to-day operations of the football program, coordinated all travel plans and oversaw staff, department budget, academics, compliance, alumni relations and other areas.
Prior to his time at Bowling Green, Sexton worked with Learfield’s corporate office in Plano, Texas, as a support assistant. He served for almost a year with Bowling Green’s Falcon Sports Properties, a division of Learfield, as manager of business development, working with clients and agencies to develop, activate and implement sponsorship opportunities.
Sexton played football for Kansas State University where he was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 recipient and was on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times. He graduated from Kansas State in May 2016 with a degree in journalism and mass communications, and a minor in business administration. Sexton earned his master’s in sport administration from Northwestern University in 2021. In 2025, he was inducted into the Kansas Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame. Sexton also is a 2025 member of Leadership Kansas, one of the oldest and most prestigious state-wide leadership programs in the country.
