LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer begins its two-game road trip on Sunday, Oct. 5, as the Jayhawks travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on No. 18 Texas Tech. Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m. CT from the John Walker Soccer Complex and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
"We were pleased to see the competitiveness out of our group on Thursday night," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "Coming off back-to-back losses, we needed that type of effort. It's critical that we build off Thursday's performance going into one of the best teams in the conference in Texas Tech on Sunday."
Kansas bounced back from two prior defeats with a dominant 4-1 win over Kansas State on Thursday night in front of 2,402 spectators, the second-largest crowd in Rock Chalk Park history. The Wildcats went in front with an early goal by Andra Mohler, but the Jayhawks responded with a penalty goal by Jillian Gregorski in the 32nd minute. Becca Smith scored her first career goal three minutes before halftime to take a 2-1 lead going into the break. Kansas kept the offense hot, as Livvy Moore scored her third goal of the season and Smith scored her second goal of the game in the 75th minute to lead the Jayhawks to a 4-1 win.
This week, Kansas sits at No. 21 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll. Kansas has been in the TDS poll for five straight weeks.
Lexi Watts ranks fifth in the Big 12 and leads Kansas with six goals. Watts is also tied for 10th in the Big 12 and leads the team in points with 13. Gregorski's five goals puts her second on the team and ninth in the Big 12. Caroline Castans is fourth in the Big 12 and leads Kansas with six assists.
ABOUT TEXAS TECH
No. 18 Texas Tech has a record of 9-1-1 and coming off a dominant 4-0 win over Oklahoma State on Thursday. The Red Raiders are led by Taylor Zdrojewski, who has scored eight goals and tallied 18 points this season.
SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and Texas Tech will meet for the first time since last year's Big 12 Semifinal game on Nov. 6, 2024, where Kansas came out on top 2-1. KU leads the all-time series 15-13-3 over Texas Tech.
