LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas track and field team will be competing in the 2025 Big 12 Indoor Championships on February 28 and March 1 in Lubbock, Texas.Â
The Jayhawks have three returning Indoor Big 12 champions in this year's lineup, including
Grant Lockwood (600y),
Michael Joseph (400m) and
Clayton Simms (PV). All three were first-time conference champions last season, looking to defend their crown for a second-consecutive year.Â
There will be 26 total men as well as 26 total women representing Kansas in Lubbock, with all event groups represented in the lineup.
Outdoor Big 12 decathlon champion
Alexander Jung will be back in action for the heptathlon, joined by teammates
Tayton Klein and
Payton Kasper in this event. Jung is the heptathlon school record holder, which he acquired at the 2023 Indoor Big 12 Championships with a total of 5721 points. His season best mark is 5698 points, which puts him at No. 3 in the Big 12 and No. 16 in the NCAA.
Five Jayhawk men and four Jayhawk women will be competing in the pole vault, looking to put multiple people on the podium in this event.
Last season,
Mason Meinershagen was the Indoor Big 12 Women's Pole Vault runner up at 4.45m, which tied the previous program record in the event. This season, Meinershagen broke the school record with 4.47m, a new personal best and the ninth best mark in the NCAA so far this year.
Erica Ellis is right on her heels, hitting a personal best of 4.45m at last weekend's Arkansas Qualifier, putting her at No. 11 in the NCAA.
Gabby Hoke (4.34m) and
Madi Snody (4.09m) will join Meinershagen and Ellis in this year's conference field.Â
The women's vault crew is No. 2 in the NCAA Event Squad rankings for the fourth-consecutive week, making them the only event group in the program to appear in the rankings this season.Â
Mid-year additions Ola Wolczak, Jeremiah Smith,
Ebba Cronholm and Irine Jepkirui will all be competing at this weekend's meet after just two months in the Kansas uniform, looking to make a name for themselves in the conference across their respective events.Â
