
Four Kansas Jayhawks Honored with CSC Academic All-District Recognition

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Addi Barnes, Hailey Farrell, Lydia Lafferty and Lize van Leeuwen have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team in recognition of their excellence in both the pool and the classroom.Â
With this honor, Barnes, Farrell, Lafferty and Van Leeuwen are now eligible for CSC Academic All-America consideration, where first, second and third-team honorees will be voted on and announced later this spring.Â
To be nominated for the CSC Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must play an important role on the team with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution.Â
The 2024-25 Academic All-District Women's Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.Â
Barnes, a senior captain from Overland Park, Kansas, is an exercise science major who competed in every event for the Jayhawks this season. A University of Kansas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative for the swim and dive program, she secured two first-place finishes during the 2024-25 season. She won the 200 IM (2:07.35) against South Dakota on Oct. 25 and the 1000 free (10:31.48) against Rockhurst on Dec. 7.Â
Farrell, a junior from Hutchinson, Minnesota, is an exercise science major who competed in every event for Kansas this season. She placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.17) during a dual meet against Iowa State on Feb. 7, helping the Jayhawks secure a 181-117 victory. At the conference championships, she finished 16th in the 400 IM (4:22.66) and 21st in the 200 IM (2:02.56), contributing valuable points for the team.Â
Lafferty, a junior from Watonga, Oklahoma, is an exercise science major who excelled at the Big 12 Championships, earning an NCAA "B" Cut in the 100 butterfly with a lifetime-best time of 53.24—the second-fastest in program history. Lafferty finished fifth overall in the championship final of the 100 fly, scoring 25 points for KU. Lafferty also made it back for the consolation final of the 100 back, finishing 11th overall with a time of 53.85.Â
Van Leeuwen, a junior philosophy major from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk, Netherlands, made a strong impact at the conference championships. Her best finish came in the one-meter diving event, where she placed ninth with a score of 280.15. She also secured 10th place in the three-meter event with a score of 280.05. With her performance at the Big 12 Championships, Van Leeuwen qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships for the third consecutive year.Â
This marks the second-straight season that Farrell and Van Leeuwen have been recognized on the CSC Academic All-District Team.Â
