LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arizona Wildcats used a seven-run first inning Saturday afternoon to set the pace in a 15-3 five-inning win over the Kansas Jayhawks at Arrocha Ballpark.
The 13th-ranked Wildcats improved their record to 35-7 on the season and 12-5 in conference play, while Kansas dropped to 17-19 overall and 4-10 in the Big 12.Â
Arizona got out to an early lead to start the game, tallying 13 runs on 11 hits through the opening two innings. Kansas went deep into its pitching rotation against Arizona. Senior Katie Brooks started in the circle while junior Lizzy Ludwig, freshman Kaelee Washington, and freshman Kennedy Diggs all saw action as well.
Junior Presley Limbaugh got Kansas its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a single down the left field line. After a pair of walks from junior Aynslee Linduff and freshman Karsen Griggs, the Jayhawks had bases loaded. Junior Campbell Bagshaw got Kansas on the scoreboard with a 2-run single to left field.Â
Diggs stepped up for the Jayhawks to finish the game in the circle. Diggs led the team with three innings pitched and allowed zero runs and no hits in a strong outing out of the bullpen.Â
