LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a tight draw on the road at Utah State, Kansas soccer returns home to matchup against No. 2 Florida State on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT and the match will be aired on ESPN+. Florida State is the highest ranked opponent Kansas has hosted in program history.
Kansas (3-0-1) battled hard on Sunday to a 0-0 draw at Utah State after a 3-2 win over Utah Valley on Aug. 21. Against Utah State, neither team was able to find the net marking the second shutout of the season for Kansas.
"We hope people come to Rock Chalk Park to watch us play and we hope we represent the program well," Kansas head coach
Nate Lie said. "We want to go out there to compete and show our identity. Â There's very little margin of error with an opponent like this, so we have to stay focused and committed for as close to 90 minutes as possible."
Sophomore midfielder Jillian Gregorski led the Jayhawks with three shots against Utah State. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophie Dawe matched her season high in saves with four in back-to-back games. Senior forward Lexi Watts leads the team in goals with three and junior Caroline Castans leads in assists, also with three.Â

Florida State (2-0-0) has had a hot start to the 2025 season with home wins over Florida, 5-0, and Florida International, 2-0. FSU is ranked No. 2 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll and No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. FSU has won the second most national championships in women's soccer with four and their last coming in 2023.Â
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's match will mark the third meeting between Kansas and Florida State in women's soccer and the first since 2003. The series is tied 1-1 with Kansas winning the last matchup 3-1 on Sept. 12, 2003 in Lawrence.Â
