PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Kansas women's golf team finished in fifth place at the PING ASU Invitational with a three-round score of 869 (+5) at the conclusion of the final round on Wednesday. This marks back-to-back seasons where the Jayhawks have finished inside the top five at the PING ASU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.
USC won the 16-team tournament with a three-round score of 841 (-23), followed by host school Arizona State (-12), CSU Fullerton (-9), Baylor (-7), and Kansas (+5).
"Overall this week was an incredible team effort with all players having a key low round for us." Kansas head coach Linsday Kuhle said. "Today it was Ebba (Nordstedt), yesterday it was Amy (DeKock) and the first day was Lyla (Louderbaugh), all putting together some great performances."
Junior
Lyla Louderbaugh led the way for the Jayhawks throughout the tournament and finished with rounds of 70-71-73 (-2). Louderbaugh tied for 14th place individually, marking her eighth top 20 finish of the season and 17th of her career. Louderbaugh has now finished inside the top 20 for the fourth consecutive event.
Senior
Anna Wallin tied for 31st place and finished the tournament with scores of 72-74-74 (+4). Wallin carded four birdies throughout the event and has now recorded three rounds of at even par on the year.
Three KU golfers all tied for 39th place at 221 (+5) – senior
Amy DeKock, sophomore
Ebba Nordstedt, and freshman
Kinslea Jones – in the 89 golfer field.
DeKock finished with scores of 75-69-77, recording seven birdies throughout the tournament and recording her third round in the 60's this season.
Nordstedt fired scores of 74-76-71, marking her eighth round under par this season on Wednesday.
"We're very proud of the way we competed and struck the ball this week," Kuhle said. "We led the field in most pars and least amount of double bogeys. That shows that we hit the ball well and had a good game plan. We just didn't have a lot of putts fall."
Jones finished the tournament with scores of 75-73-73, and carded five birdies throughout the three rounds.
Sophomore Jillan Fatkin, who competed as an individual, recorded her best finish as a Jayhawk as she tied for sixth place. Fatkin scored rounds of 71-73-67 (-5) and set a new season low 54-hole score of 211. Fatkin tallied 12 birdies throughout the tournament and recorded her second round in the 60's this season.
"I want to shout out Jillian today for her 67 and five-under total score," Kuhle said. "She was able to finish inside the top 10 in a strong field. She has worked hard and stepped up big. We look forward to her contributing to the team score in the future."
