IRVING, Texas – Kansas baseball's
Mathis Nayral and
Tyson LeBlanc each received Big 12 weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday. Nayral was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and LeBlanc was selected as Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The Big 12 weekly honors are the first of their careers.
Â
Nayral recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in a phenomenal seven innings of one-run ball on Saturday at Cincinnati. He allowed only three hits and one walk the entire day, to go along with his 11 punchouts. Nayral retired the final 14 batters he faced from the second out in the third inning through the end of the seventh inning.
Â
This season, Nayral has a 3-1 record with a 5.14 ERA. His 1.11 WHIP ranks fifth in the Big 12. The Montpellier, France, native has a team-high 38 strikeouts this year and his 35.0 innings pitched are tied for the most on the team. His 11 strikeouts on Saturday were the most by a Jayhawk since the 2024 season.
Â
LeBlanc hit .381/.417/1.000 (8-for-21), with a double, four home runs, 12 RBIs, five runs scored, two walks and a 1.417 OPS in five games last week. A native of Maurice, Louisiana, LeBlanc hit a home run in three of the five games and has hit six home runs in the last eight games. He had his first career multi-homer game against Sacramento State on March 24, which included a walk-off three-run shot for a run-rule victory.
Â
Another of LeBlanc's homers last week came in the ninth inning on Sunday at Cincinnati. LeBlanc hit a grand slam to help put the game out of reach. Last week, LeBlanc drove in multiple RBIs in three of the five games and hit safely in four of the five games. He leads the team with nine home runs, 29 RBIs and 64 total bases.
Â
Nayral and LeBlanc are the first Kansas duo to receive a Big 12 weekly award in the same week since
Michael Brooks and
Dominic Voegele on March 31, 2025. Nayral is the 21st Jayhawk in program history to win Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and LeBlanc is the 20th player in Kansas history to win Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
Â
Kansas (18-10, 6-3 Big 12) is coming off a series win on the road at Cincinnati. The Jayhawks have matched their best nine-game start to Big 12 play in program history and have won six of their last seven Big 12 games.
