Get to Know Tya ...
Why did you choose KU?- I chose KU because of the school spirit, everyone here is proud to be a Jayhawk. Even when I go back home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, I still see people in KU gear who are happy to exchange a "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" with me.
How did you get introduced to rowing?
- I was a volleyball player in high school who wasn't having a lot of success with getting recruited. Another university reached out to me about rowing asking if I would consider doing it in college. I had never heard about rowing before so that summer I went to a learn-to-row camp and I loved it. After that I switched my recruiting over to rowing and that's when I found KU.
Favorite thing to do in Lawrence?
- My favorite thing to do is to go to Ella Parisi's apartment with Ella Haasch, Aylin Schaffer, and Catherine Bachovchin. We grill hotdogs and hamburgers and share some laughs before we go swimming or play some sand volleyball.
- My favorite pre-race tradition is getting out all my red and blue hair ties and braiding some of the girls' hair either the night before or the morning of a race at breakfast.
