Why Did you Choose KU?
- KU had the best balance between academics and athletics out of every school I visited. I knew rowing was a non-negotiable in my college experience, and KU seemed like the best opportunity to row while adequately preparing me for med school. When I was on my visit, the coaches and hosts were so kind and informative, and the program itself seemed very organized. During the recruitment process I was repetitively told not to stress and that I would end up where I needed to be. The second I was dropped off at the airport after my visit was over, I knew without a doubt that KU was my school.

Living in Arizona, rowing isn’t a well-known sport. I learned about rowing through social media, however I was still swimming and I assumed it wasn’t an option since I lived in a desert. I looked up a video on how to use the rowing machine, and proceeded to do a 2k for my first time on the erg. Something about that experience intrigued me and I mentioned my curiosity about the sport to my dad who then persuaded me to find a rowing program in Arizona. After researching, I found out that the closest team was 30 miles from my house. I signed up for an intro to row two weeks into my Junior year. I was scared going into it, but after my first row on the water I felt different than I had about any prior sport I participated in. I knew rowing was my sport.

- Swam for 6 years. During that time I placed top 3 at regionals in multiple events over multiple years, and attended state championships in 2020 for the 50y & 100y freestyle
- Awarded with the “Chaparral Swim/Dive Athlete-Scholar Award” my Sophomore and Junior Year going to the highest GPA on the team per class.
