Get to Know Abbey
Why did you choose Kansas?
I chose Kansas because it felt like home. The coaches and girls are so welcoming and have an incredible drive and work ethic. Everyone wants to win and see the team succeed, and we are constantly pushing each other to get faster and be the best we can be. The team truly feels like a family.
How did you get introduced to rowing?
My dad introduced me to rowing. During COVID-19, I wasn’t able to play basketball, so he suggested I try a new sport. From the moment I sat down in a boat, I loved it, and I knew I wanted to row for as long as I could.
Favorite thing to do in Lawrence?
Trying new food places and walking around Mass Street.
What is your favorite pre-race tradition?
Matching hairstyles with my boat and jamming out to music during warm-ups.
Personal:
I’m an only child, my favorite color is pink and my favorite food is Mexican. I’ve been rowing for seven years.
