LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer sophomore defender
Caroline Castans and redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Sophie Dawe each received conference honors for their performances last week, the Big 12 announced on Monday. Castans was named Defensive Player of the Week and Dawe was selected as Co-Freshman of the Week.
Castans recorded her first career multi-goal game as she scored both goals in a 2-0 victory at Kansas State on Oct. 25. The two goals were her first of the season and it marked her first career game-winning goal. Castans finished with a career-high four points and helped the team secure its seventh shutout of the season.
Dawe led Kansas to its seventh shutout of the season and her sixth solo shutout on Friday night with three saves in the win at Kansas State. Her six shutouts are tied for the fourth-most in the conference and Dawe's 0.94 goals against average is the sixth-lowest in the league. Dawe has allowed only one goal in the last four matches.
Castans becomes the 16th Jayhawk in program history to be awarded Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. Castans joins fellow defender
Mackenzie Boeve as a recipient of the accolade this season. Boeve was chosen for the honor on Oct. 2.
Dawe has now won the Freshman of the Week honor twice this season. She was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Sept. 11 following her second career shutout at Vanderbilt.
Kansas will play Arizona State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT in the first round of the Big 12 Championship at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City.
